A new Germanic history site
#1
Because I know we have some members who are interested in Germanic origins and military history, here is an announcement I received recently at RomanArmy.com:

"I have recently finished my website and i hope you will find it
interesting, Reginheim is a non-political site about the history, culture, and religion of our Germanic ancestors and other aspects of our cultural heritage.

It gives all kinds of information ranging from local legends to
languages, writings, historical sources, etc; of course it speaks for itself that Reginheim does not support racist or extremist views, it is purely historically orientated.

You can visit Reginheim at the following adress:
www.reginheim.cjb.net

Becouse of bandwidth limitations it may be possible that the site is sometimes unavailable, in that case you will have to check back later.

I am not only sending you this email to inform you about my new site of course; i also have a question for you:
Becouse you posess a website which is interesting to the visitors of Reginheim i have decided to add your site to the link section, and i would therefor like to ask you to place a link to Reginheim on your site in return.

Of course this is just a question and not an obligation; if you do not wish to link to my site then simply ignore this email and accept my apologies for bothering you, though i believe that websites linking to eachother only increase eachothers success; it's a win-win situation.

Well anyway, i hope you will enjoy my site and i wish you much success with your website.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the notice about this site Jenny. It's good to see that Ansuzharjaz has put a lot of time and research into it and it's even better to see he's using a fine Proto-Germanic name as well (it means "Army of the Gods").

On the less positive side, the site seems to be a gateway for the much reviled Xupiter parasite, which decides to install itself on your computer whether you want it to or not, and does things like add the Xupiter search bar to your browser, sets the Xupiter portal as your homepage (no matter how many times you change it back) and can also take it upon itself to download casino software or add porn links to your bookmarks.

I've got some pretty good spyware and security software on my PC and I've been infested by this vile thing before, but it still managed to duck under my defences and infest my browser. I'm contacting Ansuzharjaz tonight to discuss a few things, so I'll see if he's aware that his site seems to be spreading the Xupiter blight. Alltechnet gives instructions on how to remove all the various bits of Xupiter from the entrails of your system if it gets a foothold. If a screaming mob ever drags the idiots who created this thing from their boltholes I'll be happy to help crucify them.

If people are interested in other sites on the early Germanic peoples there is the Germanic-L discussion group and the Germania section of the Ancient Worlds Community. Some of the people at Germanic-L are also working on a project to reconstruct the Proto-Germanic language which will eventually have it's own site and discussion forum called *Þeuðiskôn (though this site is only a prototype).
Tim O'Neill / Thiudareiks Flavius
Hmm, thanks for the warning! I only gave the site a cursory look and I guess I didn't get infected as I see no evidence of the Xupiter parasite. Ugh. I always thought programs couldn't install themselves from browsing or opening emails...
I only wised that other people also know this (at wotk for example). It would make my work (second linesupport for PC) a whole lot easier. You wouldn't believe how many people still spread the "I Love You-virus" today..... Some people open and install everything they get without even looking what it is. Most of the times these people are managers (especially with porn-links/ add-ins). There is a story here that during a presentation of a high manager here with his laptop, the laptop jumped on screensaver -> revealing lots of "nature-pictures".... Needless to say that everybody was awake then....

That's the nasty thing about Xupiter - its creators claim that it only installs if you agree to it, but many who have been infected by this parasite program (me for example) can attest that even if you click "No" to any pop-up asking if you want to install the Xupiter toolbar or even if the pop-up doesn't appear, Xupiter still installs itself.

When I accessed Reginheim yesterday no pop-up appeared, but Xupiter burrowed into my system nonetheless. It hasn't done so when I went back to the site tonight, so perhaps the site owner has fixed the problem. I hope so.
Hello everybody, i hope you like my Reginheim and thanks for telling the people about it!

I am unaware of any virus on my site though, it's hosted at Geocities and for all that i know they have only added some annoying commercial stuff to it, i visit my site almost every day to check the amount of visitors and i have never gotten any virus or other crap so i think it's safe to visit my site, though i'll take a look just in case, can anyone tell me how to remove this Xupiter stuff if it's really there?

Oh, and don't forget to register at my forum:
