Big Grin D D Those pics are priceless!! Hilarious!
Out of sight of subject shores, we kept even our eyes free from the defilement of tyranny. We, the most distant dwellers upon earth, the last of the free, have been shielded till today by our very remoteness and by the obscurity in which it has shrouded our name.

Watched the Opening Ceremonies

If only the NBC sport casters would

a) SHUT UP
b) not talk about current world affairs
c) learn how to pronouce the names of countries
d) stop guessing at what some politician/athlete/cute little kid.... must be thinking...

If only the NBC Director would not ZOOM IN on scenes that required the camera angle to be broad... "PULL BACK!!"

If only the NBC broadcast didn't include interruptions for commercials.

If only....

Other than the above as a short list of MY complaints the Ceremony was SPECTACULAR

The friggin jinormous LED screen ; 2008 drummers at the opening; the LED screen...... the popping up and down square towers...

add ARD (our main TV station) besides NBC and I fully subscribe to the aforementioned Smile

Best coverage of some events yesterday and today was a Korean language station we get..

So go figure.. we get boxing and basketball and al year long in US sports stations.. so what does NBC spend most of its main channel air time on.. boxing and basketball.... in fact boxing was on 3 of NBC's stations at one time last night.... another had a rerun of a soccer game while live events were being broadcast on Spanish and Korean language channels we happen to get.

This post has been removed by the author. I do not see a point to being on a forum where moderators such as Matt Lanteigne aka Magnus can practice harassment and hypocritical behavior. RAT seems to have slipped into a place where people of this ilk can do or say whatever they want AND since he's a moderator, I guess it's all okay w/ the forum owners. Good luck, but I am done here.

Hey All, Y'all

I've been asked by The Moderators to remind us about the Rules for Posting in regards to politics... I think the BEST way to put it is the way they put it: "We moderators agree that your post was most likely not intended to spark political discussions, particularly those that have to do with modern governments and/or government officials. However, there are those who have changed the complexion of the thread to be exactly that."

So no more jibing at specific politicians!

And that why I changed the name of the THREAD...

The ancients were probably just athletes trying to do the best for their towns. After the event they went back to whatever they did. I don't know if it's wrong to make a fortune endorsing products, I guess whatever way you can make a living is ok, as long as it's honorable and legal. Nobody can stay at the apex of skill for long, there's always someone coming up behind who is younger, faster, stronger, whatever.

I don't really understand why they let professionals in the competition, though. I suppose basketball is a separate category or something.

With some reasearch I made last night, " OLYMPIA 2011" Its funny how the city state would give their winning athletes money, just like the canadians!
