The Reason Why
#31
You don't like crisp bacon????? Egad!

When I was in Britain, (long time ago) I remember eating a lot of greasy fried stuff for breakfast, like fried tomatoes, fried bread, fried sausages, fried eggs. I actually didn't mind, but I would never eat all that fried stuff at home--too much cholestorol. Couldn't find any peanut butter, though. Man, I missed my peanut butter!
There is nothing better to wake up to than a nice full english breakfast yum yum and apparently is a brilliant hangover cure, cant see why though.... think it would be a bit sick after a drinking binge not that I would have any experinece of that...

An undeniable superiority of the anglo-saxon way of life over the "latin" way of life is breakfast. I humbly admit it.
The french go with a cup of coffee and two croissants or bread, butter and jam in the morning. That's not enough.
And having lived in both countries and being sort of a neutral party in any americano-british dispute, I have to proclaim the superiority of the american breakfast over the the english one..
My life changed when I discovered what steak and eggs, washed out with a large orange juice and a two cups of coffee could do to you in the morning.. Mmmmmm.. It gets you going like nitro-methanol injection..
Then of course, nothing's perfect.. There is also the dreaded peanut butter...
Sorry Wendy...
BTW: any suggestion on what people had in the morning before coffee and chocolate came into fashion?

Edited by: Antoninus Lucretius at: 5/9/03 11:11:53 am

OMG...do the Brits fry everything? I had a hilarious mental image of them putting everything in a metal basket, and tossing it in the deep fryer...even soup!

I think there was a thread on hangover cures a while back that I started....

I like balanced meals....protein shake for breakfast with 2 pieces of fruit, and 2 packages of oatmeal.
Magnus/Matt
in a humorous aside, are you a 'Granola'?
I'm not sure how Roman reenactment fits with a new age hippy lifestyle, but if it works, then I have high hopes for recruiting in the boulder colorado area since this region abounds with weirdos and street-freaks (myself included by definition)

those of us with a military background and a clean cut look are considered weirder than most around here...
Surprisingly enough the British have some pretty good dishes.
And fish and chips will beat a fast-food style hamburger any time.
and yes, vinegar on fries, so what?
However...
Americans are quite good at ruining things like fish with "deep frying".
...But all this is beaten by far by the dreaded "Scotch egg".
A "Scotch egg" is food, of sorts, made out of: a hard boiled egg, surrounded by an inch thick coating of sausage meat (?), wrapped in dough and deep fried.
It's very cheap because you'll spend about two days trying to get it through your system..
That thing has the density of depleted uranium..

I like Scotch eggs!!!!! and sausage rolls, roast dinners, and fish and chips I cannot understand the American obsession of making a drink as artificial looking as possible. When I was in the US I had an orangeade that looked radioactive it was so bright ! but in all fairness us Brits tend to fry lots of stuff, the weirdest being Mars bars!
Magnus the Fried breakfast isn't deep fried, tis panfried. Even we don't deep fry bacon and eggs. It is the worlds best hangover cure though, combined preferably with strong tea and a walk in very cold air to the shop to get the ingredients.

In the name of heaven Catiline, how long do you propose to exploit our patience..

I know fried oreos are big on campus right around the festivities during the last week of classes. Never tried 'em, myself.
