Group Fund Raising
#1
Another question for you guys and Gals of the Forum... Any hints on tips on Fund Raising would be appreciated, any experience on how easy / hard it is to raise money for a Reenactment group would be good...

The kind of ideas we've came up with so far are :

Raffles,

"Football tickets" pay £1 to guess who wins, winner wins £20.. total of £40 takings £20 into the kittie every time.. but was thinking of doing it with a Gladiator Theme, guess the Gladiator to win!!

Coin Swap.. Swap Illegal Tender (£££) for Legal Tender (Denarii) Smile

Any other ideas? / Suggestions for Improvement?

School/community outreaches for an honorarium. Host a display at a fair or other gathering. Depending on health department rules in your area, sell foodstuffs made more or less to ancient recipes.

Host a day camp for kids. Sometimes schools will pay, parents might like to see their children wearing somewhat period costume, learning a little history, marching like soldiers. Put on mock gladiatorial fights, or if you can get enough people together, mock battles of one kind or another.

The public will pay a small ticket price to be entertained and educated. Set up a "Have your picture taken with the Roman soldier" (or gladiator). Use boffer weapons and have combat with the spectators (this is rough, because they're not nearly as restrained as you probably will be...expect to get smacked once in a while.)

For the pictures, there are several on-the-spot photo printers that can run on battery or extension cord, take the picture, print the picture, take the money, everybody wins.

Equip your children or grandchildren and send them out to collect taxes
several of my grand kids did this on their own (without us knowing) and returned with seventeen dollars after less than an hour.

Give them more pointy things and they might get more revenue?

see with this fundraising technique.. We could work out a 'pointy things' to tax ratio.. Is the number of pointy things directly proportionate to the amount of taxes collected? Smile haha.

I'm doing a distance march next year. Yard sales are a good way to sale wares and extra stuff that pretty much every household has. Just make it about raising funds for your group instead and it works well. One way I'm thinking of is getting certain people to save their pennies. Small ways can really add up. The best way to raise money (at least what I'm trying to do) is have clear plans on what you want to do such as special projects and ask for small amounts from a large group of people. You'd be surprised at how many related fields there are out there. Don't approach it from the angle of begging for money, but moreso offering an opportunity to contribute to something great that will benefit the reenactment community in many ways.

But if we sack them, won't they all be unemployed then? What a drain on the wheat storage facilities.

No, bad idea.

Let them work, and we'll harvest their excess wages. Better idea!

Become an Ancient Warfare affiliate, all it takes is a special link from your site. Probably not a get rich quick scheme, but everything helps.
And for groups/clubs we're adding the option of selling AW subs at 10% commission.
Greets!
