York calling once again!
#1
Last year two local RATers met up for a drink in York, trying to attract other local Roman enthusiasts. This October a few more of us are meeting up for a get together.

The venue is The Maltings, Friday 10th October, 8.00pm. Hopefully the first of many.

Hi John

If you meet up at the Maltings you will have a good time but you won't remember a lot! Big Grin wink:

All the best
Graham.
"Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream" Edgar Allan Poe.

"Every brush-stroke is torn from my body" The Rebel, Tony Hancock.

"..I sweated in that damn dirty armor....TWENTY YEARS!', Charlton Heston, The Warlord.

Hi Graham,

Yes, the real ale selection is the best in York. But I expect we may head on to other pubs. We have a collection of RAT members, and members of Leg. VI and Comitatus. Most people attending will live in York, but with some coming from as far north as the Wall. I suspect we may exceed double figures. Some people cannot make this one, so we hope to meet again in November. I hope so.

Best wishes

John

Once a month in York local Roman enthusiasts get togther. This isn't a grand meeting but rather a drink and a chat around some of the city's more notable inns and hostelries.

On 22nd November 8pm we will be starting in the Three Legged Mare, the York Brewery Inn just inside Bootham Bar.

This get together is closely linked to Anthony's efforts in walking the Wall a few weeks ago. Anthony marched dressed as a 4th century soldier in aid of cancer relief.

Anthony will be coming to York to try and add to the amount collected so far. The group will be helping his efforts by dressing up and levying cash from passing civilians during the day.

We kindly have the use of the Roman Bathouse Museum as a base during the day,

At the end of the day we can collapse into the inns of York for the monthly meeting.

An excellent turnout and a great meeting. It was a productive day including a tour around the Yorkshire Museum. It was great seeing Salvianus in the evening.

People even stayed around to have a go at Roman riding the following day.

Next meeting 19 December 8.00pm in the Yorkshire Terrier, Stonegate.

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
