I thought he was supposed to be carried home on top of his shield.

That was an interesting war. Definately muddy and unfortunately I couldn't stay the whole time and it was a bit hectic for me, but was still a great time.

That is some impressive mud! But it looks like people were having fun regardless. I wonder who the Roman-themed group was- not your legion, Hibernicus?

The photos are very nice, although they left me wanting captions.

I have not checked this forum frequently since 2013, but I hope that these old posts have some value. I now have a blog on books, swords, and the curious things humans do with them.

Yeah, sorry I missed you Derek, and the entire event!

Sean: We'll have a presence in 2009. There are a number of Roman themed warbands and many more individuals who do a very credible impression.. unfortunately the warbands mostly leave lots of room for betterment..

We'll be stepping out with scutums (though made of birch plywood) painted with milk paint and eth Legio IX Hispana emblem, with our regular reenactment segmentatas , a tightly proportioned helmet , manica , occrea , thurst and throw rattan pilum, gladius and pugio, .. all of our rattan weapons will be shaped and not simple round "clubs".. I have found that simulated weapons (rudis or rattan) with some shape work far better.

The goal is 20 soldiers in 2009 ready to fight SCA style.

We're also setting up a large encampment... ovens, armor workshop, papilio etc

CAPTIONS....?

post the url for a pic and I can probably explain what's going on.

The battles are/can be medievally confusing! To solve that colored dots and colored squares of tape are used to help combatants ID each other. Blue tape vs Yellow tape for example. Generally it's not that difficult.. if a group is faced across from you or throwing blows at you they're on the OTHER side!

Esmeralda often gets some great pictures.

Many years ago, before Texas was even a principality let alone a kingdom, when I was in the SCA we had a couple of pitched battles but nothing like that in the photos. We had about 30 fighters and thought that pretty impressive, but it was nothing compared to what I see here.

Wow! Confusedhock:
