Pictures of Gladiator equipment?

I took some pictures of some Gladiator equipments on a trip to Capua. Would they be of interest to anyone?

While I'm not too into galdiators, pictures of ancient equipment always facinates me, regardless of origin or use....Yes please!!

Yeah. I saw most of those pieces when they were still at the museum in Naples. Exquisite are'nt they.

Yes, I saw it there in the Naples Museum too many years ago....it originated in the gladiator barracks in Pompeii, along with much more gladiatorial equipment, including several 'Secutor' type helmets, several rectangular crested 'Hoplomachi/Samnite' types, other examples of the 'griffin head' crest, 'retiarius' shoulder guard, a large cornu/horn and much else.
I have never seen a full catalogue/list of all the gear found in the barracks but it was obviously a considerable amount ( can anyone post such a list?).....more photos, please, if you have them.... D

Did you make some notes by these pictures? I would like to know more on the statues that are in one off these pictures. Most of interest would be the materials these are made off. From the picture I can't see what they are from.

There were no "cards" or "booklet" there at the museum.
I went on a Sunday when there was no staff except a ticket taker. There were some guys playing chess there.....  Half the adventure was walking from the train station to the museum! But then, with no staff, I was able to wander under the ampitheather for a couple of hours.

Hello there
I don't suppose you where able to see any of the items from behind? I am trying to get a feel for whether this heavily raised work is direct to the main material or a shim added to a simple shape and held in place with the edges and rivets? It would be great to know what techniques they used on these larger, more ornate pieces? Fabulous to look at thanks for sharing. Kind regards Graham |
