VBG.
If they're headed to Texas from Arkansas, and end up in Illinois, they should just go ahead and surrender to the authorities, as they're hopelessly lost anyway.

Ahem. Back on topic.

Will the campaign have a place to camp 1) primitive, that is in period and separated from the modern camp and background? 2) have water near enough for practicality, or will water have to be brought over by transport of one kind or another? 3) If there is still a burn ban (we've had one about a year up here in Central Texas) how will people be able to cook? 4) Is firewood available, or do we have to bring our own?

Just logistics, of course, and they're all things that won't be known for sure until near to the date, but I'm just asking in generalities ahead of time.

Looking forward to it! Hope it is after school is out...kid in High School still.

There will be two camps, one a period camp for the hard core and one for non-period camping.

Water should not be a big problem you can carry water down in a period contaner or we can have water stationed down by the camp in a water tank. I am tring to get a friend that has mules and a wagon to come out to help and he could bring water down by wagon.

There hasn't been a fire ban at this time of the year in Anderson, but if there is a ban on fires we have a full size mess hall on site next to the museum that we could use IF we needed to.

As for fire wood there is plenty of wood on site. We may have to cut it up a little but there is wood. Also the area is big enough that there could be two period camps.

There is plenty of parking as well as if there was someone that wanted to bring the motorhome or trailer they would be able to hook into the electric. The little town of Anderson,Tx ( and I mean little) is only four to five miles from the site.

We could march into town invade the local tavern, drink a beer or two, and march back. The other route for a march is shorter and would bring us into the site from the back side. I'm not sure what route to do but we will see.

What about families who camp primitive? People who want to sell/swap stuff?

I'm not sure how the Roman army delt with camp followers. But I would say they would be welcome to stay in the period camp with the soldiers. Or there could be a small camp just outside the military camp. We could even work them into the event as a weathy family that we are escourting back to Rome. Then they would have to be within the camp. What are your thoughts on this. Also they would be able to watch the camp as we are out marching. I'm just trowing out thoughts.

There are a lot of ways to deal with it. At Lafe, they have a Vicus area, where family campers stay, and soldiers camp inside the fort. We only have one tent, so that could be an issue, but it's a canvas wall tent, which by that time I hope to have painted brown, in the way that Rusty has painted tents (see the thread on this forum about that, or on SOTW).

There are a couple more tents up in my area, papilios made of canvas, and I'm hoping we can all paint up the same way. More is better. (who's the nut that said "less is more"? Try that with spaghetti when you're hungry. Easy to disprove that theory!)

Anyway, if you put up a site on the camp, be sure to do it as early as you can. May 2010 isn't that far away, you know.

Is this event still on the books? Please publish info if it is, so we can get the word spread around. Strange as it sounds, not every Roman comes to RAT for info. Weird, yes?
