Hello All,
I have seen some pieces of Roman glass but it all seems to be blue. So my Question is: What colors did they have? As well as what would be the most common colors?

A wide variety of colours, lot's of different techniques.
I haven't time to go into detail right now.
Some colours they had:
-clear
-white
-green
-Blue
-Brown
-Very dark purple or almost black
-red
-...
Pressed in moulds, blown in moulds, free-blown, mosaic glass,...

But others had the time: [url:27bbyxau]http://www.romanglassmakers.co.uk or for German speaking visitors [url:27bbyxau]http://www.glasrepliken.de
In fact, most of the Roman glass is close to colorless, with a blue-green or green-yellow tint. This refers to the 'natural' color of the glass which is caused by iron oxides in the sands used.
But the cobalt-blue glass ist so nice. That´s why it´s so highly collectable ... and seems to turn up everywhere ... 8)
Best wishes,
fwg.

All the best,
Frank.

I bought a couple of nice pieces at St Albans, or verulanum? museum, one was the blue colour the others greenish tinged, and extremely fine glass! Scary for a roughneck like myself...
