Beast Hunt, type of animal
#1
Ave,

New to this portion of RAT,... but an issue came up in our informal discussion group on Beast Hunts. Mosaics show Lions , Cheetahs and someone remembered that there was an image that resembled a Tiger (?). Granted those are pretty fierce but all of the animals mentioned are from North Africa or south of the Sahara (except the Tiger) ....So the question is what about northern Europe? The Aurochs was still around and a European Bison would be hard to take down and down right dangerous when provoked.

Did a search , but did not find any info on this topic. Do you know of anything in the record that either mentions northern European animals , or was that just something that wasn't done??

Regards from a Spring like Balkans, Arminius Primus aka Al
ARMINIVS PRIMVS

MACEDONICA PRIMA

aka ( Al Fuerst)

Coming from the Northern provinces or Germania Magna bears are well attested animals which were used in venationes as well as the afore mentioned aurochs. But also lynxes and wolves, also deers.
