How others see us Murcans
#1
I've always been fascinated with the slang terms for Americans and our ways that other nations have. This one from the Telegraph, a review about the Mercury Grand Marquis, is not only spot on for this awful class of car, but gives me a new word for my next license plate: MURCAN (read below).

My dad had a Lincoln Town Car for a while and I took it on one long trip. I know I hit 100 on a downhill, but it really really didn't like it. Had a terrible wrinkle right in the windshield too. It indeed drove like a waterballoon but it did get me there and back. Being a Ford, it didn't do that all that often though.

The link doesnt seem to work anymore. Thats what I get for not reading this sooner.

I had a roomate in college who had a Grand Marquis that I borrowed when my car broke down. Thing would only start to shake around 40 and if you dared get up to 50 with it, it would shake so hard you could barely drive it.

When I asked my roomie about it her reply was "Oh, I never take it above 40, dad said if I did the engine might fall out."

Oops.

That was the last time I drove that particular vehicle, and for some reason, ive been hesitent to step in one ever since.

Finally read it... lol.

Guess I aint a real MURCAN... I mean after all, Ive been pronouncing it wrong the whole time. Dang me and trying to make a good ol MURCAN car into something French...

And I think I have a new term... I find the term "Yank Tank" rather endearing. I reckon I should get rid of my Bug and MG and go git myself a big ol Grand MarkeeS so I can experience it fully...

That sounds like a tire problem. Out of balance, or internal delamination, maybe.
