Shoe from Hardknott/Mediobogdum

Quote:A soldiers sho I guess going by the hobnails?

Carbatinae aside, more than 3/4s of the closed shoes of all sizes were nailed if the finds are somewhat representative. So nailing alone says little about the wearer being a soldier or not.
As for Hardknott, see here.

Ahh yes, right guys, rushing past the obvious as usual!  Apologies.

Thanks, and Hard knot, so a good guess it was a soldier, in an isolated place like that.
Just what I need for my second cent impression!!! Smile

That place is really great, I love the preservation of that site. Here, the Limes has been wiped away by either the river or stonethieving Dutchmen. The little left is often as not destroyed by developers, such as 100 meters of surviving Roman wall 3 meters high, ripped out to build a casino.

Ah, back to the topic: GREAT WORK!! Martin, you are a true artist with leather boots 'n bags. The way this heel stiffener is done is beautifull.
