The Good Soldier Švejk (World War II)
#1
Most reenactors reenact very famous and respectable units; but we can leave it to the Czechs, who also gave us the delightful The Good Soldier Švejk and made Jára Cimrman "The Greatest Czech", to reenact the Fourth Battallion of Musketeers from Patrick Ryan's satirical novel How I Won the War. Here's the website; beautifully made, and I really had to smile. If Švejk had been in World War II, it must have been something like that.

That it´s quite a curiosity into the reenactment world. Confusedhock:
I suspect that my group shares quite a lot with that elite unit

That reminds me that I have to stole my brother that book  , while he´s in Glasgow.

I have a copy of The good soldier Švejk, in english. Although I belive it takes place in WW1 and not WW2. I may be wrong but I haven't read it in a few years. It is a really good read though! I'll have to read it again when I get back home from Iraq.

Interesting, I do think that many reenactors (more in 20th c. than in Roman) tend towards elite units. Its interesting portraying a very common unit in the Russian civil war when everyone else wants to do Kornilov division etc.
