working on: 3rd BC roman kit

My own, that is still in the works, is much simpler than the Manning one (which is based on one in the photos I just posted I think). Literally a square brass plate, with brass edging, and shaped a bit.

Johnny Shumate did an illustration that leaves quite an impression.

I've been trying to post a picture ofthe pectoral and metal belt from the Leeds Royal Armoury. Its is bogging down my system though, so have not yet managed, but I think that would be the example of pectoral and belt together you are looking for?

Possibly someone else has 'good' pictures of this, as mine are of dubious quality.?

Quote:Pretty much the first photo Matt posted, except I'd definitely face the scutum front and back with white felt. I'm also not too sure about an all metal barleycorn umbo - circular, or a wooden umbo that joins with spinae that has a metal reinforcement shaped over it and running horizontally either side onto the scutum (butterfly style). The scutum could also be covered with rawhide.

so it should be more like this:[Image: DSC05024.jpg][Image: DSC05013.jpg]

instead of this:[Image: KA%20Republican%20Spine%20&%20Barleycorn...20kits.jpg]

I have that very spinae and umbo kit on the left, Chuck. It'll need some work to fit a curved scutum, but that's what I'm going for, yes. To be honest, I don't think the metal reinforcement's even necessary, with the wood being more than thick enough to protect the hand and centre, especially with a covering of felt.

Byron, I'd love to see the photos of the pectoral with belt.

Right, quality even worse than my memory, these are also more than likely Samnite or Etruscan if IRC, but at least they are all one set.

You haven't seen these yourself? Confusedhock: While only a very small part of the exhibits, they are definately nice pieces.
I'll bet they must have someone there who can supply you with decent pictures, Jim.
There are the guys who do the medieval combat displays from there, so they are probably fairly re-enactor/reconstructor friendly.
