In the recently reopened museum of Xanten, there's currently a nice exhihition on the Marcus Caelius cenotaph. Here's one of the objects.

Any idea of what the painter was trying to represent by painting the armor yellow? As a Primi Ordines Centurio (one of the centurions in the First Cohort), he certainly could have afforded getting his lorica hamata gilded.
