34th Festeynder arts fair
#1
Fectio had a nice day out yesterday in Limburg, at the 34th annual Festeynder local arts fair. Not much Roman stuff, but the 4th-c. Deurne helmet was found close to this village. That was back in 1910, but the feelings about that find still run strong and most locals know about it.

Anyway, we were joined by the Minervii and we enjoyed ourselves pretty much.
Here's a short video of us prancing around

Fectio (Jeroen, me, Jurjen, Andreas, Marrit, Janneke and the Minervii (Patrick, Hannah and Carla - who can be seen in the complete picture here)

Patrick brought his new helmet:

Carla and little Hannah:

Janneke tried some archery:

We were not quite alone there:

I like the helmet come tent

How many events do you do each year? And what sort of events? I've often wondered what my life would have been like if I was born in the low countries Smile

It varies from anything between 10 to 20 over the past 5 years. Since we're a small group, we tend to have small venues. Mostly 'guard duty' at the watchtower, plus a few museums and 'history days' here and there. Some school visits of course, once in a while something for a tv production. Plus we like to join other groups (1st-c. Romans) when the opportunity arises.

Hmm. maybe I should wonder what my life would have looked like, had you been born in the Low Countries.

We would have entered into a civil partnership, be doing lots of late Roman events, and you would be on a horse much of the time

This was my second time as a late Roman soldier, and I must admit I like it, for sure. Still have to do some work on my kit, as I now borrowed both helmet, spear, shield and dagger from Andreas, but yeah, you can't get everything at once (when also doing a lot of other impressions).

And another picture taken during the procession:
