Alternating command after Cannae
#1
Two questions really.

First did Consuls alternating command end after the battle of Cannae? I cannot find much reference to this either way and was wondering if it ended after the Romans saw how bad it could make things.

Or would it be more accurate to say it ended because Rome started fielding so many armies that each Consul could easily field his own legions and they did not have to alternate anymore while commanding a single army?

Any information would be appreciated. I am curious what lessons the Romans learned from Cannae and this one seems rather obvious.
