Well, spring fullers like we use are possibly not evidenced by finds, but a hammer with one end shaped like a fuller would be useful, and could be used like a fullering tool. Any blunt chisel (usually easy to find in my shop--it's the sharp ones that are elusive) can double as a fuller. However, the use of either one would require some kind of holding unit, whether a helper or a mechanical hold fast of one kind or another.

It doesn't seem unrealistic to make the assumption that they'd mastered the fullering tool technique one way or another, since there are many blades that are fullered. (Should I start the fight now and say they were "blood groove" tools? :twisted: :wink: )
