There is a Roman era PC game now available for download at $5.99
Perhaps one of our members has played this game?
Given the image and the marketing copy it seems $5.99 might still be too much.

GoG.com's latest game to be added to its DRM-free library is Praetorians, the 2003 released historical RTS game from developer Pyro Studios. The game was originally published by Eidos but apparently the rights to the game have transferred over to Kalypso Media. The game, set during Julius Caesar's time as head of the Roman Empire. You can get the full game now (with extra wallpaper and artworks) for just $5.99
There are several other games also on sale at this site -- perhaps there are some gems among the dross...
