The weight of your wool looks light enough to recreate the many folds in the draping we see on the pottery. It seems you made a good choice. Of course, you will only know for certain after you experiment with the draping. :-)
As for the trim I think you may want to choose one that isn't metalic. Gold thread doesn't seem to have been invented yet in this period. I asked the forum about this a while ago here: http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?fu...&id=225419
But I know a website that sells hundreds of different trim styles. I will send you a PM with a link. There's a specific trim that you may like. It's a non-metalic, black and white "Greek wave".
