Roman Mail Construction
#16
Hello John.

What I was refering to was infact a cavalry shoulder cape which is very different to a doubling as such, in Robinson page 168/9 there is what he refers to as a shoulder reinforce as shown from a late Augustan relief Palazzo Ducale Mantua and a relief of Mars from a votive pillar at Mavilly Cote d Or.
It would appear that the chest fastner is fitted to the cape and if the mail under the cape has short sleeves, then simple removal of the cape would allow one to go into many periods.
