A gladius from Berzobis
#1
You've seen the helmet. Now see the gladius (note that this is a direct link to a PDF). Can't read Romanian? Once you have it loaded in Acrobat Reader, save it out as a text file then upload that file into Google Translate for an instant goodish translation.

Thanks Mike!

Looking at the pictures of the gladius when discovered and restored, thats a pretty (ahem) "comprehensive" restoration.......

Thanks Mike!

I agree Paul, The tang could in my opinion have been longer allowing for the bronze hemispherical portion to have covered a sperical wooden pommel. I guess it could have been either/or!?

Great to have a definite Trajanic period sword to go alongside the cross-braced Berzobis helmet too!

Thanks for the link Mike. I was kind of shocked to see the sword. It’s the first time I’ve seen one similar to the one I first talked about in 2006.[attachment=1:18xxbr5g]<!-- ia1 IMG_0020 100.jpg<!-- ia1 [/attachment:18xxbr5g]

I suspect that much of the restoration comes from the imagination of the curator. I think that the pommel is wrong.
