Jack Whyte\'s series
#1
I've just started "Skystone", Jack Whyte's first on the end of the Roman Empire in Britain. The book is designed as one of a series leading up to some explanation of the basis for the Arthurian legend.
Has anyone read these who can comment on its accuracy of the Roman army in this time?
started it and never finished. Hated it. He's got the army all wrong. He's assuming the army hadn't changed since the Principate and missed out on Severus' and Diocletian's reforms.
Thanks. I note also he calls centurions 'senior sergeants', among other things. The book was not bad but it is obviously designed/contracted to run into many volumes, rather like all those fantasy 'novels' and will never get to the point.
Aulus
