Friendly Fire
#1
For anyone interested in reading about friendly fire incidents through the ages, Back Fire, The Tragic Story of Friendly Fire in Warfare from Ancient Times to the Gulf War, is a pretty interesting book. It seems to be available at Amazon.co.uk. I think I ordered it from Hampstead House books in Canada, but it was a couple of years ago so I'm not sure.
It is quite shocking to read about all the men who have been killed by their own troops and their allies over the years.
I've always thought that this is the main reason why soldiers wore armor on their backs: because the archers and slingers were always dropping short rounds into their own ranks, and there was always that bozo in the line behind you who was going to trip and poke a spear into your kidney. There had to be a reason for those huge neckguards on the Imperial Gallic and Italic legionary helmets.
