Imperial Roman Legion Colours
#1
Anybody with a good idea of the colours available to paint the cohort shields of a legion? I'm putting together a 6mm legion (not 1-1), and am using the idea that each cohort painted it's shields a different colour, so any suggestions as to a list of 10 suitable colours? Bearing in mind that it would all be hypothetical anyway, but wanting to avoid picking something that would be inappropriate - eg 1) White was a parade colour - would a cohort have used this? 2) were any colours considered unlucky? 3) were any colours labelled differently (eg in Russian, light blue and dark blue are two different colours.) 4)Would the Romans have considered different shades to be different colours (eg would salmon pink, pillar box red, brick red etc be thought of as all 'red'?) Any and all suggestions welcome! Smile
