My Introduction - LXVII Legio
#1
Hi everyone

Just introducing myself to you all as a new member. My name is Richard, and I am very interested in Ancient Rome and the Roman Era - have been looking for a while for a forum where this sort of thing is talked about when I stumbled across this site and thought I would join up. I live in North East England, on the Barbarian side of the wall  and have been interested in Roman matters since I was an O-Level Latin Student 25 years ago. My particular era of interest is the "Rubicon" era, essentially from Punic Wars to the killing of Caesar. I started out a few years ago reading up on the subject (with Holland's Rubicon), and am still in the process of working my way through the fantastic Masters of Rome series (presently on Caesar), being a bit slow as I have filtered in other books which cover the relevant period to the McCullough book I am currently on. I have become more interested in military matters as time has gone on, especially detail about how battles were fought etc - and am also reading through some of Goldsworthy's books (Roman Warfare, Fall of Carthage, In the Name of Rome, Caesar). Like a bit of light relief as well, so have just embarked on the SPQR Series, as well as the Roma Sub Rosa series - inter-reading these as well to keep the periods consistent. I am also interested in gaming with Roman Themes - and my lads are just getting old enough to appreciate, so we enjoy playing things like Senator, Caligula, and recently picked up End of the Triumvirate - as well as Rome : Total War, which I haven't seemed to have time to get my head round yet.

I hope to be able to contribute something to this forum, as well as seek a bit of help from you, though it may take a while for me to find my feet - always seems when you join a well established forum, you have so many existing interesting threads to work through! Any way, great to join up, look forward to contributing in the future.

Cheers
Richard
