Three days to live in ancient Rome. Ludi Romani, International Festival of Roman Civilization and Culture, held on 23, 25 and 26 September at the Museum of Roman Civilization represents a true "immersion" in the Roman world, including historical re-enactments and plays.
The event is named after the important games which took place in September in the Circus Maximus, dedicated to Jupiter Optimus Maximus, the god worshipped in the temple on the Capitoline Hill who guarantees the cohesion of the state and the eternity of Rome. They included parades, sacrifices, theatrical and circus performances, dance, music, drama, sport, a series of events involving the whole population.
In the Museum’s rooms will be reproduced environments, activities, jobs and roles of the Roman daily life: you will meet a military surgeon, treating wounds, a painter showing his art according to the Roman technique, a weaver with her vertical loom, a cooker illustrating Roman food and dishes, a make-up and hair stylist who will propose you the most fashionable hairstyles held by famous empresses.
In the entertainment areas, actors, musicians and dancers will perform text of latin authors and will play roman music with reproductions of ancient instruments.
Specific educational workshops will be reserved to children who can experience a day in the ancient Rome, visiting a basilica during a trial, a temple during a religious ceremony, a crowded market where they will be able to buy goods coming from the provinces of the Roman Empire, measure and pay them with Roman coins.
A special area, a public garden by the museum, will be transformed into a Roman camp (castra) where groups of reenactors will simulate combats and military trainings, will show aspects of a legionary’s daily life and the use of war machines reproduced in original size.
Lectures and debates will be organized during the event about multiculturality in the Roman Empire, and reenactment experience in Europe as educational instrument
