What was the fate of Romanized population of Balkan peninsula after Slavic migration in the 6-th century?

Assimilation.
As I understood it, where things are better documented (Bavaria), the Romans became a different social class, but gradually this class would have disappeared, as it did in Gaul for instance. In Austria heard that the Romans pulled back into fortified places (burgi) while the Slavs settled in the valleys. I have no idea when these different groups merged beyond recognition.
