Wish I could help you more. All I know is that this region could have been "celticized"; perhaps it would be more appropriate to say that it's weapons had a heavy La Tene influence, so they probably fought like some of their neighbors. I know the Taurisci/Norici dwealt in that region, which might also be an indication of the quality of metalworks coming out of that area. Noricum became legendary for ironworks, etc.

Here's a place to start: [url:2q57l1hj]http://home.exetel.com.au/thrace/images/illyria.htm If you search Roman Army Talk there are some fantastic photographs of Illyrian re-enactors. I found them when searching the web for Illryian helmets - I was trying to classify this one: [url:2q57l1hj]http://www.flickr.com/photos/rossitza/2491504841/in/faves-thracian/

Wars against Illyrians have always been difficult ones. Especially against Delmatae, they fought against Rome and defeated several armies. Campaigns were fought on a rough terrain throughout modern Dalmatia, Croatia. Some of the worst defeats occured there (even Caesars army was slaughtered, but it wasn't led by Caesar himself).
