Roman-Parthian War of 161-166
#1
I'm looking for any information I can find on Lucius Verus's war with Parthia during the mid second-century. I believe I've rounded up all the primary sources, but am looking for some good secondary ones.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I sort of remember that, but can't think of where Lucian writes about it. Do you remember which work?

HA talks about Marcus hurriedly sending his daughter to Ephesus to marry Lucius Verus, perhaps to put a stop to that affair.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jona. I ordered the article from the University of Helsinki and stayed up late last night to read it. I've long had the sneaking suspicion that some of the bad reputation Lucius Verus has is unwarranted, and the author systematically dismantles much of the bad press. The HA is especially targetted, and the author goes to great lengths to disprove much of the slander and show how the HA tried to contrast Lucius Verus as the "bad guy" to Marcus as the "good guy."

There was a lot of new information, especially newly discovered medals, coins and inscriptions, that I knew nothing of. Not only did the article illuminate the war in the east, it also opened up a new window on Lucius Verus' overall role in the imperial administration.

About Lucius Verus girlfriend, you find her in Lukian in the third book in the text Panthea (in english A Portrait-study http://www.sacred-texts.com/cla/luc/wl3/wl303.htm )oder Die Bilder, also in the third book the second text is Verteidigung der Bilder (Defence of the portrait-study http://www.sacred-texts.com/cla/luc/wl3/wl304.htm ). In the second text she responded.

There is also a study about a inscription on a victory-statue for the victory in 166, EINE VICTORIA CAESARIS UND DAS PARTHERMONUMENT (IVE 721), Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigraphik 113 (1996) 91–93, HELMUT ENGELMANN http://www.uni-koeln.de/phil-fak/ifa/zpe...113091.pdf

bekleidete, und ihren Sohn Aquila, weil (Timaios) mit großem Aufwand und großer Hingabe sein
