Segmentata Construction Blog

You're right, the hinges aren't finished yet -- all things in due time.

My cottage is on prime canadian shield -- big lake, granite, and pine trees describes it pretty well. Can't see the neighbours either - they're too far away. 8)

In theory I'll be finishing the prototype while I'm up there and posting updates on the blog upon my return.

Where is your cottage, out of curiousity?

Tonight I should have some pictures of punch-decorated brass slots - a bit sloppy but fun to work on.

Now that I'm back in the apartment I really miss the great set-up I had at the cottage... I might need to put together a small work table on my balcony or something.

Anyways, I'll be assembling the girdle sections for the first time soon-ish.

Thanks for the offer Sam, but I think I'm OK... This is going to be sitting outside in the weather so I'm not investing money in something fancy the way I would if it was going into my (currently imaginary) workshop. Basically just something let me work without bending over all the time.

It will probably just be 2x4s for the frame and legs, with some plywood or 2x6 offcuts for the work surface. Actually if I could make most of it out of offcuts that would be ideal.

If I'm feeling really fancy I might insert some denim shock absorbers so I don't irritate the neighbours quite so much.

haha, that's nothing to be sad about! I'm an engineer, so I instinctively want to overbuild things... like 4x4s for the feet and 2x6s for the cross-braced frame, etc. The kind of table that you can drop a car engine onto without even jiggling the stuff on the other end. 8-)

Anyways once I have a table to work on instead of hunching over the anvil on the floor, my punch decoration should stop looking like it was done by a 5th grader...

Edit: Yes, some of the triangle stuff is HORRIBLE since I was trying out different methods of holding the punch. On the other hand, some of it is not bad!

hey, thanks man

YES, this looks very nice, and original. They weren't perfect either, and I'm sure the proper ones will be just as good as the originals. Confusedmile: Also, you're giving me ideas~~~
