Blueprints for making an Armor Stand?
#1
I want to make an armor stand for my Lorica Segmentata,so naturally I'm going to need a few 2x4"s

Obviously I need to make a cross shape for the armor to rest on, but I am unsure of the best way to make the legs/stand and attach them to the cross. If you've made a armor stand or something of the like before, please share

Matt,
as crazy as this sounds, check out E-bay under Armor Stand. its how I found mine and there are generally a few you can look at for designs.

The ones I have made use a square base with a hole to take the upright post, but not fixed so when not in use or for transportation the T piece is lifted out of the base and both can be layed together.

Thanks guys, I have looked on ebay, and there seems to be a decent 38" stand for $39, but I'd like to make my own, especially for that price, though I don't have a lot of tools to work with. Does anyone have pictures at least?

Might not be a bad idea to extend the vertical post so you could put a helmet on there, too, if the need arose.

That is a good idea David and what I have done in the past is where I have made an eliptical plywood piece to go on top of that with a bit of foam and leather covering to protect the inside of the helmet.

Matt, send me an email...I'm on dayshift and I'll be a zombie all week-end so I'll forget.

This is the bottom of one of my stands...the other one, I used the pattern below. Were the cross piece is which allows the armour to "hang" on it, make sure you leave enough room for the helmet (see last pic).

I made one from 2" x 2"s and 2" x 4" painted flat black. I built it in one morning, painted it the next day and spray glued black felt to the bottom and were the shoulder would be. I screwed everything together and used mdf for the base. Here are some pictures.

I am using male dress forms for my displays—they allow displaying the armor and equipment as it was worn. You can get one online for about $60.

I used to display my segmentata on a dress form as well, but got worried that its weight when hung may adversely affect the leather or the lobate hinges of the collar, so I put it down for now.

Thanks for the pics guys, I think I'll go with Matt's method in his second picture, seems the most simple and least expensive, though perhaps someday I would like a mannequin, like what Alexander has.

Although Alexander do you feel that having the segmentata sit on the ground with the weight riding on itself is better for the internal leather?

My Corbridge A has been hanging for just about 10 years...I have only had to replace one strap, and there has been negligable if any stretching of the leather.
