lorica segmentata pattern ?

Hello , I stumbled across this website in search for a pattern for the lorica segmentata and I was hoping that maybe someone on here might be able to help me . I am trying to make some of the armor and I cant seem to find a pattern with measurements on it and i would perfer not to make several mock ups to find out a good fit , I as well would like it to be as historically acurate as possible . Thank you guys in advance !

Darian,I'm sure EVERYONE strongly suggests you at least make up a rough cardboard one. PLeaaaase or it WON'T fit you, and to be honest, it's better making a card board mock up with a few tweaks than ruining your proper one and starting over then

Here's how I did it. I went on Legio XX's site, went on the segmentata page. Go onto the drawings of the parts. Now, my screen wasn't compatible with the printer so I had to convert the provided inch stick from the printed patterns and convert into real reality sized pieces using a ruler as my converter.
It's really simple. Draw with pencil onto ur card board directly ( I messed around with paper and made a booklet of the patterns, waste of time) and draw out the pieces in proper size. Then either a razor or scissors will do ( razor for straight lines is easier then scissors for bends) cut out one of every piece. Some pieces you only have to double. This you turn the up side of ur already cut out pattern, face down on a plane piece of cardboard and cut around with razor using piece on top as support, or draw using original piece as template. Doing this will be like symmetry, like a butterfly's wing. If you don't put the original piece FACE down on the blank which you want to use for the same piece, opposite side or chest, then you will end up with the same piece for the same side of chest...not good... :-P
I have made the entire upper half of the seg, and the two areas you gotta watch out for, ( glad I learned now and not with metal) is that, be careful with the shoulder guards as they aren't long enough, that's the example given with the four plates at an equal decreasing angle. Next thing is the breast plate. Many people have trouble with this, and the problem getting it to join the center of the chest. You have to make up this as shown, and then vary to your specific chest! ....not a girl are you? :lol: :wink:
When you bend the cardboard pieces, it's better to bend them along with the grooves which you find with corrugated cardboard. The pieces will stay bent much longer. I did it both ways, against the grain, and with the grain. Being under my bed for about a month, the ones bent with the corrugated are still bent, the others, not didn't do too many the bad way, and can bend back!
