LEGION
#1
When my novel LEGION was published several years ago, it was the good people of this forum who gave it a great send-off and helped ensure its success, which continues to this day. This is just a brief note to let everyone know that the First Century B.C. has now entered the 21st Century A.D. and that LEGION is now available on Kindle at a very modest price, thanks to the computer wizardry of my friend James Mace.

I hope to have a new Roman novel available sometime next year. Of course, I’ll announce it here first! My sincere thanks to all of you for your continued interest.

If you have not read this, it remains to this day one of my favorite Roman Army Fiction novels. I heartily recommend it.

John, there's no mechanism to do that (I don't have any spare copies of my own to sign), but I'd be happy to inscribe any copy that anyone cares to send to me. My address is on my Contact page. I'm easy to find!

Just a quick note to let the Barnes & Noble fans know that LEGION is now available on NOOK for the same price as Kindle. As always, thanks to all of you for giving LEGION such a long run.

Hey Bill, wasn't their talk of another book on this topic or something? I seem to remember hearing about it... just wondered if it were true.

Rusty, do you mean my own sequel to LEGION or another book on a Roman army in Gaul? If the latter, I haven't heard about it, although it's certainly possible. I eagerly welcome all new writers in this field. It's interesting to consider that not so long ago there was almost no Roman military fiction. While I was in the midst of writing LEGION, Simon Scarrow’s first Roman novel came out and launched his wonderfully successful career. Whether he created the market or capitalized on an existing one is for others to discern (probably there was a synergy of sorts), but his success demonstrated what I'd suspected, namely, that there is a readership—micro-niche though it might be—for novels about the Roman army. Like a fine Roman, he laid down some of the earliest stones on this road (and continues to produce at an enviable pace), to be followed by Messrs. Iggulden, Mace and a flood of others. In those Paleozoic days, this was a lonely field. Not so now. I'm happy to see it. Big Grin
