The "three spharae" (3 bullets??) appear very much in the 6th century B.C.
Its probalby linked to the political gangs of the Alkmeonides (Maybe)
Usually we have three white "spharae" on black background. Here we have a unique example with three black "spharae" on white background.
So the artist partly painted the hoplites details and the three black "spharae" and then added plaster based white colour to cover the tosro surface with the shield. The white colour faded giving the "seethrough" effect.
The item is note worthy both for the visual effect and the unusual depiction of the shiled device.
