Gaming in the Roman military community
#1
Hi People,

I am hoping that I can utilize the wealth of knowledge on this board once again!

I am halfway through writing a dissertation on leisure in the Roman military community on the Hadrianic frontier. I am about to start a chapter on Gaming and gambling. For this I will be investigating as many types of games that members of the Roman military community might play. So far I have came up with; ball games (Such as trigon and trigonalis), board games ( such as latrunculi), and dice games (with both 4 and six sided die). Are any members of this board aware of any games I have missed? Also ae there any particular books or journals you lot can suggest? At the moment I have "Daily life of the Ancient Romans" by D. Matz, "Leisure and Ancient Rome" by P. Toner, "Life and Leisure in Ancient Rome" by J.P.V.D. Balsdon and "Artefacts in Roman Britain" by L. Allason-Jones.

Any advice or direction would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Ian
