Anyone read or know of a review of Woden's Warriors: Warfare, Beliefs, Arms and Armour in Northern Europe during the 6-7th Centuries by Paul Mortimer? Table of Contents and Introduction

I've got a copy- very good book focussed on Anglo-Saxon warriors of 6th/7th century. Its a large and beautifully illustrated book, with a vast number of photographs and drawings- especially good on the reproduced work done by Thorkil and Ganderwick among others. There is a wealth of information on an period that is actually under-represented in the literature compared to the periods before and after. It also has large sections on the symbolism and belief systems.

Its not cheap, but worth it in my view, and I find that I am constantly referring to it. Recommended.

I guess as a member of the living history groups whose commisoned and recreated artifacts heavily feature in the books it could be said my own opinion is biased but I would say the book is worthy of purchase for those with an interest in the period presenting a wide area
of discussion, observations and comment in one volume.
