How much do they overlap at their seams? And how is the cord attached to the top and bottom?

Draw string method? I used something similar, but only because my greaves chew the skin on my calves.

I use the one's used by the soldier on the right, 10 cm by 150 cm. Wrap around the leg and close with a leather thong. There is a picture of me in the show your roman soldier impression somewhere.

It was an achievment for me to have made this pair in the first place... ;-)

Well, they were described as 'over-engineered'...however, 2 pieces of string and a flap of cloth are beneath my sense of dignity! (plus seeing a comilitone beaten for his falling off, inspired me to 'over-engineer' mine! 8-)
I will be making an improved model soon! :-)
