first thx for the invitation, perhaps we can make it next year or 2008 to come to your camp, but i cant promise

Theres no chance to get a hoplite in an imperial amphitheater.
The time of the classical hoplite ended long time before, the pahalangites had taken the field in macedoanian time (hellenistic time) and they were the one, which get in the macedonian wars the chance to stand republican romans in battle (not the heavy troopers of roman army in first / second century).
Before that, Phyrros fought the romans. There possibly hoplits get in the room of private fightings, but not for sure.
And anyway, you cant mix different periods that way. The cuples seems to be set in rules, and the evolution of the types of gladiatores moved every time.
If you use helmets of the pompeji or herculaneum types, or use reliefs or the 3rd century, its impossible to let em stand against prisioners of the macedonian wars.
Anyway, and that are just theories, it wasnt normal to let civilized prisoners fight. Not only of causes of moral (or even of causes of moral...), but more of their "virtus", while a barbarian (celts i.e.) loved it to fight and were described to be happy to get in a chance to fight to end their lives instead of been sold to mining.
