Vindolanda Shoe Patterns
#1
Hi all,

I would like to make a collection of shoes found at Vindolanda. To do this I need shoe patterns. I have searched on Google and did a thread search here and can not turn up a collection of patterns. Could someone direct me to a source for Vindolanda shoe patterns?

Thanks,
Marcus

As yet what there is, is pretty scattered... but with luck there will be a book out soon...

look for articles by Carol van-Driel Murray and Elizabeth Greene, and "Vindolanda, The Early wooden forts Vol3" for the interim report....

"And the four bare walls stand on the seashore. a wreck a skeleton a monument of that instability and vicissitude to which all things human are subject. Not a dwelling within sight, and the farm labourer, and curious traveller, are the only persons that ever visit the scene where once so many thousands were congregated." T.Lewin 1867

Well Ivor here knows what it speaks sure Martin Moser will pop up at a certain time until then try his website:
http://sutor.jimdo.com/shoes/roman-shoes...a-calceus/

he has a lot of insights on the page with some good and very good literature as well

one piece of advice I got myself too, each foot is different so you will have to do yourself the pattern so it fits, plus you need some tools and some leather working knowledge

http://www.florentius.com/calcei-main.htm

will answer lots of questions

Who called? :-)
Well, the first 2 answers said it all IMHO. Besides that all you can do is hunt for pics on the internet or go there and look at the shoes on display yourself. You'll have to come up with a pattern yourself then, though. I'm planning on making a few styles from there in the course of this year, so bear with me.
Btw, the correct name from Jurjen's post is Meister Knieriem (Stefan von der Heide), at http://knieriem.net/. He does first class work.
