Carrhae 2017
#1
Hi all!

I have posted this on Facebook, but thought I should post here as well.

I'm trying to get an event set up somewhere in the UK in May 2017 as a memorial to the Battle of Carrhae. I was wondering who would be interested in doing something like this, either as an Arsacid or as a Roman?

If I get enough interest, I'll keep pursuing it - I hope it doesn't flop!

Cheers

That's actually a really cool idea. It might be difficult finding enough good horse archers, and more than 10 cataphracts though.

It would be amazing, but the reenacting community is a bit short both on late republican romans and persians as well...though I actively support late republic in our group, it's still small...

Sounds good! Great theme.

My group is working on late republican kit for an event later this year. We would certainly be interested, as would be other groups nog doubt.

There are also quite a few late republican reenactors in France and some in Germany.

But to ensure that a good amount of quality groups will attend the event I believe that you should be able to provide travel compensation...

Best regards,

Possibly. I have always paid my own travel though, to Rome, and to all events here in the UK.
My own Republican kit is being refined at the moment.

With a few alterations to my kit, i am willing to participate if the event occurs. At no extra cost.

Bit of liason on what you want and the loan of a horse, and me and my bow will be in Smile

Some of you are no doubt aware that this project has moved on a bit and we now have considerable interest in running this event.
If you're interested please get in touch with either myself or Nadeem, this could be a great event.

Hi there,
great idea, hope there's a place for an palmyrian foot archer ... but only in parthian ranks.

The good news is that you have an extra year to plan your event! Anniversaries of B.C. dates are always tricky, owing to the absence of Year Zero. Wink (Also, wasn't the battle in June? Ovid, Fasti 6.465-8 suggests 9 June. I suppose May is close enough and the UK weather may be kinder.)

Exciting. But I'd echo Luke's concern about finding enough riders -- especially ones who can shoot while riding. I'd love to be there but I've never so much as touched a horse.
