Chalke Valley History Festival
#1
24 - 30 Jun 13

Held in the fabulous Wiltshire countryside, this is the third year for this quickly expanding Festival.

It may be light on academics, but it is knee deep in popular historians. It covers everything from Ancient Greeks to Commando Comics and this year there is a fantastic WWI and WWII air display including Spitfires, a Hurricane and Sopwith Camel! There are also Living History displays from Vikings to the Pennisular. There's also a 15thC and 17thC sword school!

I've booked a ticket to listen to Tom Holland's lecture on the End of the Roman Empire, and Michael Wood discussing the first three Anglo Saxon kings. If you are in the area, it is well worth a visit with tickets from £13.50 - £8

Moi Watson

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!
