Just now, I've seen your paintings on the other thread, now I know you are a pro, and I say I like your work more than McBride's work for example, your one is more "dramatic" and more emotional. That's the most important thing for me, not a cold showof equipment but something more and different, again bravo!
I have always been interested in the Provocator helmet, I have one by www.christianfletcher.com that I wear in our gladiator shows.

It would seem that the provocator helmet is one of those rare ones that has a distinct military counterpart until the later part of the first century AD when it starts to take a divergance from the military version.

Given the provocators full face which seems to have developed some time during the 1st Cent. AD I wondered a couple of things.

1. Are there any military uses of the helmet with plain full face protection as shown in the provocators helm so well drawn by Johnny.

2. What sort of military helmet is this based upon, I am planning on making a conversion of a military helmet into a provocator but am unsure what 100AD (or there abouts) military helm to start with?

Thanks and all the best.
Graham Ashford
