Hi
I was able to get pictures from the net years ago and recently quested and came up negative until one of the kind folk at Apicius posted a scan from their copy of AD79 of the famous urn boiler with the intrinsic fire box and drawer.
I was discussing the fabrication of said item this afternoon with a fried who like the idea of it. I was only able to show him the small fotos I had received. Whereas I had somehow read(?) interpreted(?) the drawer as an ashes drawer - and hypothesised that the firebox must thus have some grate in it to allow the ash to fall through-
he suggested that he thought of it as an oven shelf-which makes the apparatus even more gobsmackingly awesome -if this is the case.
Which really leads me back to this hopeful quest of
Does anybuddy have larger fotos/links/ weights and measurements of the water heating vessel from the house of Stabia(?)/ Pompeii. I have been advised there are two known examples, one from Pompeii itself??
Remaining hopeful that I might get one built (though not in bronze admitably)
regards
Richard
