In view of recreating a cavalry unit of the second century, I seek your help to get great shots of the harness-Xanten - which belonged perhaps a cavalry unit once leaded by Pliny the old, many years sooner - and its precise dimensions. Thank you for your help and valuable advices.

All shots about all your roman harness will be welcome of course !

If you have facebook, you can search a group called "caballeria romana" with some pictures of my reconstruction of a harness,and more reconstructions of other members. Specially interesting is the one made for Jurjen Draisma, is almost identical as the original one.

Okay, it seems to be working again, so I will type again a longer message.

First, pictures of the Xanten horse tacking can be found on the website of the britisch museum. Just enter the search keyword 'Xanten'.

This search will give you plenty of high res pics of the original horse trappings you look after, including some measurement details.

As for my Flavian horse tack, which has been based on the finds from Doorwerth, Netherlands I used finds from the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, Leiden. Most of their collection can also be found on their website:

I combined the useful information on the website with the information and details from several books and articles.

pics of my Flavian horsetack (after the Doorwerth, Netherlands) finds can be found on the ALA facebook, which should be available without having to login.

I based mine on drawings from various books and articles, but mainly from the website of the Rijksmuseum van oudheden (National museum of antiqueties) in Leiden, Netherlans, which has most of the Doorwerth finds. http://www.rmo.nl/collectie/zoeken

A search for the keyword 'Xanten' in the database of the Britisch museum will furthermore gain you good quality pics of the originals.
