Not sure if this is old news, but a great find out of the UK of a nearly intact stone Eagle. One of the only ones in the world apparently.

I think the only standard we've found was a Late Roman Draco made of Brass.
EDIT: This one reminds me of the old Aztec thing with the Eagle and the Snake.

here's a bit more about the new eagle;
http://www.theguardian.com/science/2013/...lpture-art There is also an astonishing volume of material coming out of this one, it's the site where the Temple of Mithras was misplaced in the 1960's, the new basements are so deep and cover the entire site so anything left from hte 60's is being swept up; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/hom...66348.html

Well it is just a stone eagle not part of roman standard(They are not known to be made of stone or am I mistaken?).At least 3 pieces of roman standards were found-Draco,vexilum and partially preserved cohort tablet.Apart from this also two eagles were found who might have been better candidates for being military standard once.
