Ludi Veleienses 2004
#1
Avete omnes,
Next week (September 11th and 12th) we'll have the third edition of our Roman festival, the 'Ludi Veleienses' at our Roman archaeological site of Iruña (former Roman city Veleia), Alava, Basque Country, Spain.
At this link you can find the programm (only in Spanish )

This year we'll have with us, on the military side, the British group 'Roma Antiqua' and a vexillation of volunteers from Legio
VII (Catalonia) , plus ourselves, Cohors I Gallica. We'll focus on the late Roman army with a sample showing the evolution from Augustus' time onwards.
The gladiators will be the 'Familia Gladiatoria Pannonica', Hungary.
Civilians will be provided by the local society 'Arkiz' and 'Roma Antiqua' and ourselves.
Any other Romans will be welcome
Bene Valete

Aitor Iriarte, Tribunus Cohortis Primae Gallicae.

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Aitor, do you think the folks in charge of your event would like to fly in two American late Romans? Just teasing, but I think we would definitely come if it was true!
Lucius Aurelius Metellus, miles gregarius, Secunda Brittanica

The folks in charge are already bankrupt, Lucius!
I think that your first idea about the lottery is the most appropriate (not to suggest some delictive activities!)
I was just teasing about that, Aitor, we wouldn't really expect them to fly us! It would be great to hit the lucky lottery numbers, though! Then you might not get rid of us, and would have to put up with all of my question-asking in person!
Lucius Aurelius Metellus, miles gregarius, Secunda Brittanica

Yes, I guessed so but... we're bankrupt anyway!
PS, the Armae Roman section seems to be out of order and I cannot check the price of those spears!

Salve,

The beloved tribunus of the Cohors Prima gallica has been murdered by some angry gladiatores, because he don'nt pay them enough.

A little pray for him, please.
Hi Aitor,

Was it bad weather or is it just a dark picture?
Both things. Well, not exactly bad weather, but the sky was cloudy on Saturday afternoon (no rain, fortunately ), when that pic was taken and the whole series is dark, surely because I didn't configurate the camera correctly !
I'll post some pics of the gladiators on RCS in the following days and a pair more here on RAT, but not now, as Photobucket seems to be down for some unknown reason!. As soon as the official pics are on our website, I'll post a link!
