Maybe dumb question about squamata armor
#1
Hello everyone,
I was looking for a squamata, I found a site selling a reconstruction. However, as seen on the picture below, the scales are "upward." So my - maybe - dumb question: is there a confirmed sense for the scales for the Roman empire?
It seems a little bit weird but I definitely don't know enough about the matter to have an opinion on it...
So, is it possible? Is it plainly wrong?

Thanks for any input Smile

Nice armour.
I would say that is lamellar rather than scales. It also looks like armour of the early Mediëval period (6th c. or later?).

It is presented as a Roman armour, inspired by the founds from Carnuntum, so I was curious.
And yes, it does look like a lamellar armour, I was a bit uncertain about what it could (or should) be called Big Grin .

It's the Carnuntum scale, but reassembled in the wrong direction.

I think they were trying to replicate the Carnuntum armour but, as Evan said, they assembled the scales upside down. In addition, the middle pair of holes on the original plates are located closer to the flat edge, rather than the curved edge. The original would also have been stapled to a foundation of linen or felt; the above reconstruction has no foundation at all.
