I would like to know about the group flight deal myself. If that works out, I would definitely plan to come. <p>Lucius Aurelius Metellus, draconarius, Secunda Brittanica</p><i></i>

Unfortunately, I have never heard of such a deal, nor do I have any contacts with an airline.<br>
If anyone would know about how to tackle such a thing, please come forward!<br>

Pity the Archeon is not really on any significant waterway. Would love to see it though! <p>Greets<br>

Well, FLAVIUS PROMOTUS is sometimes on this board. He and the other students from Regensburg participated at the march to Trento and on the maiden voyage of the "Regina" (they were wearing late Roman equipment at this occasion).<br>

We are in the process of negotiating with the Treveri over taking the ship to the 'Brot und Spiele' (panem et circenses)-festival at Trier (August 12th-14th). However, I cannot promise anything definite up to now. The transport will be a little expensive and we don't know yet whether the Treveri will accept or not.<br>
<br>
Should the negotiations with the Treveri break down, ARCHEON might still be an alternative, but the 'Brot und Spiele' officials look really motivated to hire ship and crew for a weekend.<br>

Hi Flavius,<br>
<br>
How will you transport her - overland? Wow, that's expensive!<br>
I doubt Archeon can pay such money, all the more because there's not that much water around to display the ship in it's natural surroundings. I expect in Trier you will be manouvering up and down the river?<br>
<br>
Keep us posted, please?<br>

Overland transport is indeed expensive, but we have few choices. Apart from ordering a truck tractor, we could have our fair lady towed to Trier by another ship, but that would take at least three weeks (to and fro), and rowing the ship would be too much for the crew. You can't take 35 volunteers and say "you have to cancel all dates and row for the next four weeks". A week is ok, but a month ? And you need food and shelter for more than 4 contubernia... the logistics alone would be a nightmare<br>
<br>
And yes, we will manouvre up and down the Mosella as Ausonius described it.<br>
<br>
IF the whole plan comes to something. It is highly likely, but never forget Murphy's law.<br>
<br>
There are also plans for a show at Ladenburg (site of a late Roman 'Lände-burgus'), but I don't know much, yet.<br>
<br>
I will keep you all updated ! <p></p><i></i>

Latest news about the

Late Roman event at Archeon, The Netherlands, July 30/31st

Website: [url:11j4rsil]http://www.fectio.org.uk/groep/lateroman.htm
Archeon: http://www.archeon.nl/intro_uk.htm

Current participants are:
Fectio (NL) http://www.fectio.org.uk/fectio.htm
I Germanica (E) http://www.primagermanica.com
I Minerva (GE) http://www.legioprima.de/Ubersicht/Proj ... ntike.html
II Herculia (F/B) http://users.swing.be/stephane/herculiani.htm
Batavi (UK)
Exculcatores Votadini (NL)
Dun Gwalch (GE)
Fectio (NL) http://www.fectio.org.uk/
Foederati (F) http://monsite.wanadoo.fr/foederati/index.jhtml

As well as individuals from several other groups.
Planned shows for this event for now include a drill of all soldiers, a battle between either two Roman groups or of Romans vs. Germans, an artillery demonstration, plumbatae throwing, gladiatorial combat and civilian camp life.

I've so far counted 8 Herculiani, 7 Foederati, 7 Minervii, 6 Germanicani, 4 Batavi (maybe bringing 3 more), 4 Merovingians (maybe 6), 2 Fectienses, 2 Exculcatores, 1 from Legio Secunda Augusta.
That would make 41, possibly 45.
If some others may decide to come as well, that number could reach 43.

This is the park:
