Herculaneum: a hidden treasure

In the stores of the archaeological site of Herculaneum is a hidden treasure: furniture and charred wood furnishings. There is a cot, a bed, small tables, weapons, cabinets of all sizes and shapes and household gods. But even small objects, statues and remains of food (figs and bread). Heritage, when stacked in storage rooms (air-conditioned) will be exhibited in the new museum of Herculaneum (architect Renzo Piano).

I visited Herculaneum in 2003. At that time, the new museum was in "visionary" stage. My favorite spot was the grounds of the Fish Keeper. Glad to hear the news.

Renzo Piano was commissioned to design the new Archaeological Museum of Herculaneum which should rise next to the excavation, in an area forthcoming to the “Pavilion of the boat” which could be removed to make way for the new building :
